Patty and Steven McKibben are a young couple with two small children living in the Downriver area.  Their battle began in November of 2008, when their lives were turned upside down by the news that Patty was diagnosed with breast cancer.  At the time, their children were 7 months and 2 years old.  Since the diagnosis, Patty has spent the last 18 months fighting the disease by enduring two surgeries, 7 months of extensive chemotherapy, 7 weeks of radiation and ongoing treatments. As the family begins to look forward to a life that is cancer-free and Patty continues to battle towards recovery, the beloved husband and father of two, Steven McKibben, is then diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer.  At the age of 41, he is currently undergoing chemotherapy, yet is more determined than ever to fight this dreaded disease! Patty and Steven are a team and want to do all things possible to beat cancer and live a long life together, raising their children.

Steven and Patty are both fighting cancer and we intend to help them win!  They are both wonderful people with two beautiful young children, Mia 4 and Nicholas 2. They have everything to live for and everything to fight for.

Cancer WILL NOT beat this family.  Please bring your family and friends, as Downriver rocks for the McKibbens. 

A fundraiser for Steven and Patty McKibben , will be held July 11, 2010, at the Saint Frances Cabrini Parish Center, 9000 Laurence Rd. in Allen Park, MI.  Time: 1pm - 9pm.

What were you doing on Monday, June 7th?  Mi Local Perks was at the Home Based Business Opportunity Fair at the Holiday Inn in Southgate. 

As Michiganders seek to reinvent their lives after devastating job losses, Jim Jacek of Ace Music Photos and Talk Fusion, had the great idea to offer job seekers an alternative to an everyday 9-5.  Become your own boss--see what entrepreneurship has to offer! 

Since Mi Local Perks has account representative opportunities open, where candidates can work from their homes, we set up a booth at the fair.  The turn out and feedback was great!

The Business and LifeStyles Expo during May 13th, 14th and 15th proved to be quite an awesome experience for everyone involved!  The turn out on all 3 days was very impressive.  Mi Local Perks was introduced to many new shoppers, most of whom joined the Mi Rewards Program!

May 13th - Black Tie Event

The Black Tie Event that was hosted from 6pm-9pm @ the Benjamin Yack Arena in Wyandotte was an affair to remember! 

Everyone was dressed to impress!  Local Michigan businesses put on quite a display!  The professional presentations and booths were even more impressive than the black ties and black dresses.

Kathy Anderson from Tastefully Simple was a great booth neighbor to Mi Local Perks.  Her display was large and in charge!  It was easy to see all of her gourmet offerings and attracted several shoppers right from the start. Way to go Kathy! 

Kelley Nowak was a Scentsy representative who displayed a creative and deliciously smelling booth right across from the Mi Local Perks exhibition.  Kelley also easily attracted shoppers with her colorful and aromatic merchandise. 

With natural, wickless candles, Kelley's Scentsy products were very well received by business owners and shoppers alike.

During that evening's event, Mi Local Perks gave away some fun prizes that included a gift card, dinner for two, at the Olive Garden.

May 14th - Open to the Public - 11am - 7pm

Friday was a great opportunity to meet and greet the public!  We reached out to the community and with the Mi Rewards Give-A-Way, those who joined the Mi Rewards Program that day entered to win a dinner for 2 at Applebee's.
 
There were also other cool prizes that were won, like a gift basket donated by Cassandra Cassell from Pink Papaya.  This gift basket included a luxurious body lotion and scrub, soft, cozy socks and even a wine glass to complete the relaxation kit!

Everyone who signed up for the free Mi Rewards program were able to pick a prize out of our hot pink prize bucket!  Everyone was a winner of something.  Many won Mi Local Perks magnets, but then other shoppers won gift cards to Subway, the Dollar Tree and Bath & Body Works products. 

Who wouldn't want to win a prize just for signing up for a FREE shopping rewards program where you can earn points for shopping and then  redeem those points for more FREE gift cards?  It's win-win, literally!

May 15th - Family & Kids Day! - 11am - 3pm

This was truly a fun day with clowns, face painting, games and other great giveaways for the kids.  Mi Local Perks had plenty of suckers and cracker sandwiches on hand!  My kids enjoyed themselves and everyone could see it all over their faces!  We even gave out a $25 Best Buy Gift Card to a lucky winner!

If you are a business owner and were not at this event, my question would be, why haven't you joined Mi Local Perks yet?  One of our business directory members was invited to join in on this event and was able to promote his business for FREE!  Teddy Washington III, from Cakes by Teddy, was a welcome addition to the Mi Local Perks booth.  His cakes caused quite a stir.  We thank you Teddy for your participation!  Thanks to this event, Teddy made several concrete connections and can say that his business has been positively impacted by his relationship with Mi Local Perks. 

Many other businesses were represented as well.  We happily passed out coupons and literature from other business directory members.  So, even if you weren't at this weekend's event, you could have been promoted at the event--had you been a member of Mi Local Perks.  There's no time like the present.  Don't miss out on another opportunity for us to reach out to shoppers on your behalf--Join our directory today!
